Penny wise pound foolish
Reckless spending
As I lay down to write my random thoughts for today's issue, I had a rush of tiny thoughts here and there, and I couldn't decide which one of them I would elaborate on. Then a second thought crossed my mind: why not share all of them in bits and pieces as they are? It sounded like a good idea, but my hyperactive mind didn't think so and tried to shut it down by all means. However, it lost the fight, hence why you are reading this.
One of those thoughts that my hyperactive mind would have deprived you of reading is that I think Fast Moving Consumer Goods Companies (FMCGs) might be ripping off the common man under the guise of a more inclusive/considerate option in their product size and price. While I understand that those economy packs come in handy sometimes, habitually buying such packs is nowhere near as economical as they claim to be.
Two weeks ago, we ran out of toothpaste, so we got the travel-sized one, which is half the size and price of the family-sized one we are used to. While the travel-sized one seemed more economical, it lasted for only a week as opposed to the family-sized tube that lasts a whole month. If we were to go for the travel-sized option, we would have to buy it four times to get through a month and spend twice the price of one family-sized tube that would last us a month. It's a case of being penny-wise, pound-foolish.
The second thought: I envy those who started earning before the economy took a downturn. I really do. They got to live life a bit. Tell me why I'm working so hard and can only afford a fraction of my needs and none of my wants? The other day, I picked three items off the shelf, and after payment, it felt as if I was reckless with my money. Now, ask me what I bought: body lotion, deodorant spray, and antiperspirant. So, if you ever sit close to me on a hot sunny afternoon, know that it cost me an arm and a leg to smell fresh, so you better pay me some compliments.
Lastly, I know you've noticed a slight change in the way you receive this newsletter. I forgot to mention it; I switched platforms (I sound old😣), which is why I don't address you by name anymore. I switched for visibility and so we can better interact with each other. For the interaction part, you can click the heart-shaped button to show you like the article or comment on the topic in the comments section. This way, everyone, not just me, will be able to see and interact with your thoughts and you with theirs.
Hope you practise this interaction with this issue.
Till next time,
Amara 🤗
